The Maple Shade community came together Thursday evening to support 12-year-old Xavier Taylor, who remains hospitalized after suffering a serious injury during a youth baseball event earlier this week.

Xavier, a player with Maple Shade Youth Baseball, was injured Tuesday during pregame warmups when a baseball struck him in the neck. Emergency responders rushed to the scene before he was airlifted to Cooper University Hospital, where he continues to receive treatment in the intensive care unit.

Just two days later, hundreds of residents, teammates, coaches, friends, and family members gathered at Fellowship Columbia Bank Field—the same field where the incident occurred—for a prayer vigil in Xavier’s honor.

The gathering featured prayers, music, and messages of encouragement as supporters joined together to show solidarity with the Taylor family. Many attendees wore shirts displaying Xavier’s jersey number, 6, while others carried candles and shared words of hope for his recovery.

Speakers at the vigil emphasized the importance of community support during difficult moments, noting how youth sports often create bonds that extend far beyond the playing field. Throughout the evening, participants offered prayers and encouragement for Xavier and his family as they continue to face an uncertain road ahead.

Xavier’s father, Greg Taylor, thanked those in attendance for the overwhelming support the family has received since the accident. He spoke emotionally about his son’s love for baseball and expressed hope that Xavier will one day return to the sport he enjoys so much.

The turnout reflected the deep impact Xavier has had on teammates, coaches, classmates, and neighbors throughout the community. As the vigil concluded, many remained gathered on the field, united in their support and optimism for his recovery.

For now, family members continue to focus on Xavier’s treatment while drawing strength from the encouragement and prayers being offered by people across Maple Shade and beyond.
