Buffalo police have arrested a suspect in connection with a fatal shooting that took place Monday afternoon on Grant Street, while investigators continue examining whether the case may be connected to a separate triple homicide investigation in nearby Cheektowaga. According to the Buffalo Police Department, officers assigned to the D District responded shortly after 2:30 p.m. to reports of gunfire in the 1000 block of Grant Street. Upon arriving at the scene, officers found an adult man suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest. Emergency responders immediately attempted life-saving measures, but the victim was pronounced dead at the scene despite their efforts. Detectives from the Buffalo Police Homicide Unit quickly launched an investigation, gathering evidence and interviewing witnesses. Their efforts led to the identification of a suspect, who was subsequently taken into custody. Authorities identified the suspect as Saleh Mohamed, 28, of Cheektowaga. He has been charged with second-degree murder, a Class A-I felony under New York law. The arrest has drawn additional attention because investigators are also reviewing a possible connection to a separate homicide investigation in Cheektowaga. Officials noted that Mohamed is listed as the registered owner of a residence where Cheektowaga police are investigating the deaths of three individuals discovered earlier the same day. Buffalo police confirmed that detectives have been coordinating with the Cheektowaga Police Department as both investigations continue. However, law enforcement officials have not yet established or publicly confirmed a direct connection between the two cases. The identity of the victim in the Grant Street shooting has not been released pending notification of family members. Both investigations remain active as authorities continue collecting evidence, conducting interviews, and working to establish a complete timeline of events. Investigators are urging anyone with information that could assist either case to contact the Buffalo Police Department or the Cheektowaga Police Department. Officials stress that the charges filed against Mohamed are allegations. As with all criminal cases, he is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
