Crystal Veronica Rankin Arrested in Alleged Student Sex Case Involving Oak Grove High School

A substitute teacher employed within the Jefferson County school system has been arrested following allegations involving inappropriate sexual conduct with a student, according to official jail records and statements from school authorities.

Authorities identified the suspect as 43-year-old Crystal Veronica Rankin, who has been charged with a felony offense involving a school employee allegedly engaging in a sexual act or deviant sexual intercourse with a student, according to records from the Jefferson County Jail.

Investigators stated that the alleged incident reportedly occurred on May 11. However, officials have not publicly disclosed additional details surrounding the case, including information regarding the student involved, citing privacy protections and the ongoing nature of the investigation.

At the time of the allegations, Rankin was reportedly employed as a substitute teacher at Oak Grove High School. Jail records indicate she was booked into the Jefferson County Jail at approximately 2:08 p.m. on Wednesday before being released roughly 40 minutes later at 2:48 p.m. Authorities confirmed that bond for the felony charge was set at $30,000.

Jefferson County Schools Superintendent Walter Gonsoulin acknowledged that the district is aware of the allegations and confirmed that school officials are cooperating fully with law enforcement authorities during the investigation. In a statement provided to AL.com, Gonsoulin emphasized that the district’s primary concern remains the safety and well-being of students.

According to the superintendent, school administrators immediately contacted the third-party staffing agency responsible for substitute teacher placements upon learning of the allegations to ensure Rankin would no longer be assigned to any district campus.

Officials further stated that the allegations are believed to involve an off-campus incident. Due to the active investigation and privacy protections involving a student, the district indicated it could not provide additional comment at this time.
