The Nashua community is grieving the loss of Stephanie D. Lemay, 46, who died after a fire broke out at a multifamily residence on Morgan Street late Sunday night. According to officials from the New Hampshire State Fire Marshal’s Office, the Nashua Fire Department, and the Nashua Police Department, emergency crews were dispatched to 24 Morgan Street at approximately 11:02 p.m. on May 31 after receiving reports of a structure fire. When firefighters arrived, they encountered heavy flames coming from the second floor of the multi-unit building. Crews immediately launched firefighting operations, working to contain the blaze and prevent it from spreading to other areas of the residence. After an extensive response, firefighters were able to bring the fire under control, although one apartment sustained severe damage while other portions of the building experienced significant smoke damage. During a search of the property, firefighters discovered an adult woman on the second floor. She was later identified as Stephanie D. Lemay of Nashua. The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner determined that she died from smoke inhalation, and her death was ruled accidental. The fire displaced approximately ten residents, who are now receiving assistance with temporary accommodations and other support services. Authorities confirmed that no firefighters or emergency personnel were injured while responding to the incident.
